I've been working on this piece for about 5 weeks, although I've hardly had time to touch Blender for the past two weeks or so.
The aim here was to not only increase my modelling and photorealism proficiency but to also build an atmosphere with a scene. I wanted to create a scene that felt like a real place.
The scene is inspired by my grandad's garage. He was an RAF flight engineer who spent his retirement fixing up various classic British sports cars. Honestly, it's a lot less cluttered than a real garage of this nature usually is, but I used a bit of artistic license to balance the scene better. Plus, who wants to model a never-ending stream of tiny props?
Everything was built to real-world scale. Most of the texturing was done in Substance painter, and the colour correction was done in Blender compositor and Photoshop. I know that it's fashionable to use the filmic colour management, but I think there's a lot to be said for the Film look, which is what I used here.
